Downing named former Redfin CEO Adam Wiener as its new president

A digital mortgage lender Down on Tuesday announced the appointment of Adam Wiener as its new president. Wiener, who previously served as president of real estate services at Redfinwill lead Lower’s technology, marketing, data science and direct-to-consumer sales organizations.

In a special interview no HousingWireWiener shared that he started his new role on December 9.

“I took a year off from Redfin,” Wiener explained. “But really, as I started looking at new opportunities … I wanted a company that was growing fast and I wanted a company that was big enough to be able to. [could] had a real impact on the industry, but I didn’t want a company that had reached its full potential yet. I wanted to be a part of that growth and be a part of that change.”

During his 16-year tenure at Redfin, Wiener led Redfin’s marketing and growth initiatives, generating more than $100 billion in real estate transactions. Wiener founded and ran Redfin’s mortgage and title businesses. As president, he eventually led a nationwide sales organization of 3,000 real estate agents and sales support professionals. He also has technical knowledge, he has worked Microsoft as a lead program manager before Redfin.

“I’ve always had a lot of heart and passion for the mortgage industry,” Wiener said. “And as I met with Dan Snyder, Mike Baynes and Craig Montgomery, and all the other people who work here at Lower, I just realized that this place checks all the boxes. I think the company has the right idea [for] integrating marketing and technology with customer service. And for me, it was kind of a no-brainer to join the company. “

The news that Wiener has joined Lower comes a week after the company announced it would be acquired Clean labs. According to the multi-channel lender, Lower plans to integrate its existing commercial product, LowerOS, with Neat’s cloud-based, mortgage origination platform.

Wiener explained that his new role will involve sales and technology across the organization, which will no doubt coincide with the development of LowerOS.

“I have direct oversight of the direct-to-consumer sales function [and will be] to make sure we are well positioned in 2025 to deliver value to both our retail loan officers who serve Realtors and buyers especially outside, and our direct to consumer loan officers,” he said. “The idea behind LowerOS is, in essence, to make getting a loan feel like getting a car loan. Maybe one day we’ll make it feel like a credit card.”

Snyder praised Wiener’s work at Redfin and expressed confidence in the new hire.

“There are few executives in our industry who have successfully used both technology and the human touch to build a game-changing company, and Adam is one. “What he’s doing at Redfin is nothing short of amazing, and we’re excited to work with our already talented team to make Lower the best platform for buyers and loan officers to work with,” said Snyder.

“It’s a pleasure to be a student again,” Wiener said, expressing his excitement about the job move. “‘I’d say I’m still in the middle of it. I tell everyone I’m on the steep part of the learning curve … Learning something new all the time [again] it’s an exciting and fun part of the process. Now it’s about putting all that learning together and turning it into a plan that we can do again to grow the business.”
