Meta ‘Social Notes’ model won’t work for paid ads, reports WSJ via Reuters

(Reuters) – Facebook parent Meta (NASDAQ: ) assured advertisers this week that “Community Notes”, like those used on Elon Musk’s X-owned social network, will not work for paid ads when they arrive later this year, The Wall Street Journal reported.
Community Notes on Meta’s platforms will be powered by organic content, meaning posts that Meta hasn’t paid to promote, the report said, citing a message from Meta’s operations to ad buyers.
Features of the app are still subject to change, the report said, adding that brands and organic posts may not be subject to Community Notes when it goes live.
Meta did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment.
In a major overhaul of Meta’s approach to managing political content, the company ditched its fact-checking program in the US last week and announced plans for a “public notes” program ahead of the inauguration of US President Donald Trump.
The social media company will begin entering “Public Notes” in the US in the next few months and develop the model within the year.
