FTC bars GM from disclosing driver, consumer data to consumer reporting agencies By Reuters

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – U.S. automaker General Motors (NYSE: ) will be barred for five years from disclosing sensitive consumer information about locations and driver behavior to consumer reporting agencies, the Federal Trade Commission said in a statement on Thursday.
The agency alleges that General Motors collected, used, and sold accurate driving location data and driving behavior information on millions of vehicles, which could be used to set insurance rates, without notifying consumers and obtaining consent.
The company has settled the FTC’s allegations, the regulatory agency said.
