How to make the most of closet space

Today’s houses are a wonderful reflection of our culture. They have brick backs that are not part of the building. They are made of sticks with plastic insulation which is a great barrier between the residents and the elements. They are basically like large plastic boxes designed with the look of houses but without much functionality. The windows don’t open. The shutters are nailed to the walls. Even the grass is not planted, it just comes out. It makes one wonder what kind of good the citizens are aiming for. Inside, the climate is mechanically controlled to maintain a constant 70F. Welcome to the bubble life. But I’m sorry.
My main point is to discuss the storage of clothes. Clothes were often stored in chests, and later on dressers. Today, we have so many clothes that we keep on the walls.
Now one can (obviously) buy various backup solutions, but it’s easy to build your own. My closet has a coat rack and two wide shelves above it. I don’t have a hat, my wife has a dress. All I did was hang up shirts, dress pants, bathing suits, etc. in clothes hangers. On the shelves I put t-shirts/henleys, socks, and underwear. I separate these into two small cardboard boxes. The cardboard boxes contain shoe polish and ties respectively. On the top shelf I keep a few sweatshirts and some jeans. Next to that is my collection of gadgets. GPS, binoculars, shortwave radio, stetson hat, and next to those sleeping bags. Under the hangers I have a large suitcase that stores seasonal clothes. Besides that I have different bags. There are also a few hooks that hold an umbrella, a baseball cap and an octane8 camelbak.
Most apartments and houses today have a closet setup like this. So there is no reason to buy storage furniture
🙂
It helps in old houses. Before moving here, we lived in a 1920s house with very small rooms, which means, the wardrobes were perfect for a family of four when the house was built, but for two people today, they are too small. It’s sad.
