The Los Angeles mansion where the late actress Brittany Murphy and her husband Simon Monjack died has long been a source of fascination and speculation. Now, the property is back on the market for $18 million, according to a Realtor.com report.
In 2009, Murphy, known for his roles in You don’t know again 8 mileshe died tragically in his home at the age of 32, just six years after buying it. Five months later, Monjack also died at the residence.

Murphy’s death was attributed to pneumonia, anemia and drug overdose, while Monjack’s death was attributed to the same causes.
The circumstances surrounding their deaths have fueled many rumors, including speculation about mold and paranormal activity. However, the chief assistant coroner of Los Angeles County dismissed the mold theory, while the torturous claims are open to interpretation.
Apart from the deaths of Murphy and Monjack, this home has an interesting history. Murphy bought it in 2003 from pop princess Britney Spears for $3.85 million.

Spears’ former makeup artist, Julianne Kaye, is suing for a 2021 appearance on We Need To Talk About Britney podcast that the singer ran away from home believing that “evil spirits” tried to harm him.
“That was very bad [Spears] on the left. He went to the Casa Del Mar hotel to stay there and never came back to the house,” continued Kaye.
Monjack later said that Murphy considered the house “bad luck” and had planned to move to New York before his untimely death. “She absolutely hated the Rising Glen house,” he said The Hollywood Reporter in a 2011 interview.
After the deaths of Murphy and Monjack, the property changed hands several times. It was sold at a loss of $2.7 million in 2011, and a few years later, the original building was demolished and replaced with a modern 9,400-square-foot facility.
The new estate sold for $14.53 million in 2017 and $12.2 million in 2020.
The current owners originally listed the home for $18.99 million in July 2023 but later took it off the market. It has now been relisted at $17.99 million.
This property is located on Rising Glen Road, in the prestigious Hollywood Hills area. According to the property’s listing, the home has been “completely remodeled, emerging as a testament to comfortable living and meticulous craftsmanship.”
Renovations include a newly redesigned exterior, redesigned chef’s kitchen, large vanity, newly designed fitness studio and massage suite.
Additional features include a spa area with an eight-foot waterfall wall, custom wet bar, dedicated screening room and wine cabinet. The mansion also offers modern amenities such as laundry rooms on all floors, a four-car garage with mudroom entry and an elevator that allows for easy movement between levels.
For its next owner, this place promises more than just a home, it’s a “way of life.”
