Mercury General is updating customers on Southern California wildfire claims

If the fires are treated as two separate events, the company can use reimbursement limits of up to $1.29 billion for the first event and reimbursement limits of up to $1.24 billion for the second event. In this scenario, Mercury would be responsible for $150 million in retention for each of the two events, as well as a $101 million restitution payment, bringing the total premiums and restitution to $401 million. The company will also share in extreme losses, contributing $52 million to losses of more than $650 million in the second event.
