Where does determination come from?

Determination has many words. Others say the heart. The fighters call it hunger. Grit is another name for it.
Aside from the pursuit of very few things or other talents such as superior brains, beauty, or physical stature win the day, determination in my opinion is the most important variable that determines whether a person succeeds.
However, it seems that determination is not “determined”.
We test intelligence on the SATs for college admissions. And we test intelligence on GPAs to determine job placement (don’t deny it ). But where and when do we test our resolve?
Furthermore, is determination genetic or cultural? Can it be trained?
In particular, can I say or write something that makes people more willing? The answer to that is probably yes: It’s called motivation.
However, I think determination is different from being inspired. Willingness can be thought of as “self-motivation”. Do you do things because you are motivated by others or are you able to motivate yourself? (And third: Can you inspire others?). It’s the same dynamics as leading and following. We say some are natural leaders – and many are natural followers. However, leadership can be taught and perhaps followership
can be taught (as in the military?).
Interestingly, that word is not in the dictionary.
Can self-motivated determination be taught though?
