Strikes to hit Volkswagen in December as labor conflict escalates Reuters
BERLIN (Reuters) – Strikes at Volkswagen (ETR:) from early December are “possible and necessary”, the IG Metall union said in Berlin on Friday as workers and management clashed over the future of the German company’s work.
The no-strike agreement ended on November 30. “Therefore, strikes are possible and necessary from the beginning of December,” said the union.
“Volkswagen will decide at the negotiating table how long and how severe the dispute will be – VW workers across the country are ready to strike,” it added.
The strikes, which could escalate to 24-hour or indefinite strikes if the next deal in wage negotiations is not reached, will boost Volkswagen’s finances at a time when the carmaker is already struggling with declining supplies and high profits.
