The Israeli army eases some security restrictions in northern parts of Israel By Reuters
JERUSALEM (Reuters) – Israel’s military eased some security restrictions on civilians in northern Israel late on Saturday, a possible sign it does not expect a major attack from Iran or its proxies in the region.
The decision followed an “assessment of the situation”, it said in a statement that did not comment on Israel’s bombing of military sites in Iran early on Saturday, in retaliation for Iran’s attacks on Israel this month.
In areas near the border with Lebanon, where Iran-backed Hezbollah has been firing massive rockets into Israel for months, schools can now open, as long as they have bomb shelters nearby, the Israeli military said.
In towns further from the border, near the port city of Haifa, gatherings of up to 2,000 people are now allowed, it added.
Israel’s military has tightened and eased restrictions on domestic security over the past year, according to its evolving threat level assessment.
In Saturday’s attack on Iran, Israel did not target its most sensitive oil and nuclear facilities and did not make any vows to retaliate against Tehran.
