(Reuters) – Scott Bessent, President-elect Donald Trump’s pick to lead the Treasury Department, said on Thursday that extending Trump’s 2017 tax cuts that expire at the end of this year is “the single most important economic issue in the country today.”

“If we don’t renew and expand, we will be facing an economic crisis,” Besent told the US Senate Finance Committee. “We’re going to see a tax increase for the middle class.”
