Trump’s Ukraine envoy postpones Kyiv trip until after inauguration Reuters

(Reuters) – US President-elect Donald Trump’s envoy has postponed a fact-finding trip to Kyiv and other European capitals until after Trump’s inauguration on January 20, according to four sources familiar with the trip’s plans.
Lieutenant-General Keith Kellogg (NYSE: ), who will serve as Trump’s special envoy to Ukraine and Russia, had originally planned a trip to Kyiv to meet with Ukrainian leaders in early January, Reuters reported last month. His team was also setting up meetings with officials in other European capitals, including Rome and Paris.
But the trip, which would have marked the first time Trump administration officials have visited Kyiv since the Nov. 5 election, has been postponed, the sources said, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss confidential matters.
Kellogg is now expected to travel to Ukraine after Trump takes office, though no date has been set, sources said.
It is unclear why Kellogg is delaying the trip.
Trump repeatedly said during his campaign that he could resolve the war in Ukraine within 24 hours of taking office, but he has made little progress on that. However, trying to quickly end the conflict remains a key priority for his incoming administration.
Neither Kellogg nor a representative of the Ukrainian embassy in Washington immediately responded to requests for comment.
